ONLINE WORKSHOPS:

fall 2020

Currently, with schools closed and travel plans on hold, we have transferred to an online platform, creating FPOW: The Future Perfect Online Workshops. This summer, through grant-funded support, we’re offering a diverse catalogue of FREE writing, arts, & performance workshops on Zoom for LGBTQ+ youth. Choose from a variety of courses, all summer long, with special guests at your side.

FPOW: WRITER'S ROOM

EVERY TUESDAY & FRIDAY 3pm–4pm, ONGOING

A weekly forum to explore your craft as a writer in the company of other LGBTQ+ Youth & Allied high schoolers from all over the country.

Every Tuesday afternoon we meet on Zoom for a one-hour of deep discussion, writing, and sharing, which is focused on a TOPIC FOR THE WEEK. Then we send participants out with an ART PROMPT related to that topic. On Fridays, we meet again for a one-hour Virtual Open Mic on Zoom to share what we've made. It’s just two hours total per week, and attendance is flexible week-to-week.  Participants are also invited to visit our FPOW! Message Board where you'll find weekly writing tips & exercises from expert facilitators (& special guests), as well as space to ask questions and chat with other participants in the group. It’s easy to join and FREE to participate! Starting June 16th, 2020.

FPOW: SPECIALTY CLASSES

THURSDAYS 3pm–4pm, through AUGUST 27th

Expand your artistic vision each week while exploring various mediums of creative and performing arts.

On Thursday afternoons all summer long we are offering one-time workshops with Guest Artists who have mastered various disciplines such as Songwriting, Filmmaking, Theater, Visual Arts, Creative Writing, Drag & more. Here you can learn new skills, ask questions, make mistakes, and explore your creativity in the company of other like-minded LGBTQ+ Allied Youth (ages 14-19). Starting June 18th, 2020.

QUEER SONG EXPLODER:
SONGWRITING & RECORDING

WEDNESDAYS 3pm–4pm, JULY 29th—SEP. 2nd

Develop your songwriting skills
with queer musicians from different genres

In this six week course, you’ll write, perform, and record your own original song from beginning to end. Throughout these six sessions, you’ll equip yourself with the tools of the trade, learning the writing process from queer artists of different genres, home recording techniques from queer producers, and so much more. We’ll celebrate the completion of your original song with a virtual listening party. No fancy equipment required, just a love of music and the desire to be a SONGWRITER. Thursdays weekly for 6 weeks, starting July 29th at 3pm.

WRQR: RADIO THEATRE*

WEDNESDAYS 5pm–6:15pm JUNE 17th—July 22nd

We're Queer Radio presents...

Do you miss performing live theatre? Julie Novak and guest artist Blake Pfeil guide you through the creation of a classic-style radio drama from page to virtual stage. Participants will write and perform their own re-imagined comedy, drama, or suspense thriller to be broadcast on WKNY Radio Kingston (Kingston, NY and streaming worldwide). No special equipment needed. PLUS, you get to host your own “Queer’N’Teen” segment as part of Julie’s weekly radio show, “No One Like You.” Raise your voice, loud and queer, while gaining experience in acting, broadcasting, playwriting, and voiceover performance.

*This workshop requires a commitment to all sessions as well as reserving time for outside collaborative writing sessions with your group. Wednesdays weekly for 6 weeks, starting June 17th at 5pm.
